March NRVTU meeting

We had a great crowd at this month’s chapter meeting (first Wednesday of every month). Our guest speaker George Santucci is the President of the New River Conservancy. George gave us a good overview of the issues that are impacting our area’s waters. He also shared some of the New River Conservancy’s success in protecting local waters. His talk was very informative and reinforced our chapter’s commitment to conservation. Thanks to Pete Jackson for organizing the event. Also on the agenda was the chapter showing of the Fly Fishing Film Tour. Although we are still working on some of the details, we have agreed to show the film on April 25th. It looks like we are going to have another year of great prizes and raffles, which really helped to increase the excitement last year. The Paragon Theater has offered their movie showing room again this year. Stay tuned for information and announcements about marketing materials (posters, fliers, etc). We will need everyone’s help to get the word out about town. Arnold Graboyes gave us an update on the upcoming trout stream water sampling, which will begin in April. Everything looks to be coming together nicely, and thanks to all who have stepped-up to help in the effort. Last but not least, we heard from Mr. Garland Linkous, who told us about an upcoming Veterans event at the Christiansburg recreation center on March 28th from 7:00am till noon. It will include some fly casting and fly tying demonstrations. The event is open to all. Garland also ties flies with the disabled Veterans at the Salem Vetans hospital on the 1st Tuesday of each month from 6:00pm till 8:30pm. They are in need of few more Fly tiers to help. If you are interested, contact the chapter at NRVTroutUnlimited@gmail.com , and we will get you in contact with the Vetrans Administration. folks.
